Eugene Underfoot (Greed)
Your character is motivated by GREED.
You are proudly a member of the Amaranthum Adventurers' Guild, because you know that being a guildmember is profitable - you are politically sanctioned to be GREEDY! You can take treasure without asking, you can gain political power GREEDILY. You hope to do both to increase the power and security of people (especially halflings) in Amaranthum. Reducing the power of Tetrus House will help a lot, and you have forged documents that can start the fall of this Noble House. How the house falls only requires you deciding the final touches on these documents, for example, it could lose its noble status, or it could become absorbed by and subservient to another Noble House, or you could cause their campaigns to win the imperial throne to fail. However you choose, these documents must appear to be endorsed by a leader of House Tetrus, without that leader being able to credibly deny the documents veracity.
INSPIRATION SOURCES
- GREED: You gain inspiration each time you take (or pilfer) more than your fair share of payment, treasure, loot, etc. OR pay less than your fair share, or do less than your fair share of work.
- GOURMAND: You gain inspiration each time you over indulge in food or intoxicating drink.
- REVOLUTIONARY GOSPEL: You gain inspiration each time you find someone who agrees that the people of Amaranthum should rule, rather than nobles.
- GOAL: SABOTAGE: You gain five (5) inspiration if you can cause House Tetrus to lose power in Amaranthum.
INSPIRATION USES
There are certain special cases where these abilities might fail, but these cases are revelatory to your character's arc, and move the plot forward. When an ability spending inspiration fails, special things happen.
- SECRET PASSAGEWAY: You can use inspiration to create a secret passageway into or out of a scene.
- SECRET ALLY: You can use inspiration to secretly cause one of the characters in a scene to have been a secret ally, all along. Be delicate with this ability, attempting to use it on a character who would be obviously harmed by being your ally may cause your plots to be discovered!
- EAVESDROP: You can use inspiration to overhear a conversation that you were not present for. If this conversation happened too far away, then you must have heard it through rumor, which may mean that receiving the benefits of this ability may be delayed.
BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING
You are a young halfling of the age 22 (roughly 16 in human years). You are exuberant but flighty, greedy but idealistic. You grew up in one of the orphanages in Amaranthum run by the Church of the White, which means that while you appreciate the charity of the church, you wonder whether your life would have been better were it not dominated by a central (and neglectful) authority, which shaped your political ideology. When you were 18 (still a child by halfling standards) you were kicked out onto the streets to fend for yourself. But you're no fool, you registered as an adventurer and found your family among the Amaranthum Adventurers' Guild, as well as some modest wealth and fame through sanctioned burglary and tomb-robbing (archeology). You chose the quest to accompany Amanda Tetrus on her military campaign in hopes of getting an opportunity to sabotage her Noble house.
HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THE OTHER CHARACTERS
- Amanda: Amanda is an authoritarian, and you hate authoritarians. Your belief in a peoples' Amaranthum (as well as your plot to destroy her family's claim to nobility) makes you extremely guarded when you are in her presence.
- Alexander: While most nobles are haughty and hierarchical, Alexander knows how to have a good time and reach out to people. You regret how your plot may harm him, and you have thought that you might prefer him becoming emperor (as long as it leads to a freer city), if his charisma proves to be of use for the greater good, and not just his own pleasures. You often sit next to him at the supper table to share drink and song.
- Folwin: You wish Folwin was less politically neutral on things. His intellect is truly sublime and he could do so much for the people of Amaranthum, but instead he wastes it on truth for the sake of truth rather than for a greater good. You have been trying to enlighten him.
- Sarkon: You know of Sarkon's plot to assassinate Armand Tetrus. If he achieves his goals, your plan to sabotage House Tetrus will be 100% successful. You have been trying to subtlely, without raising the suspicions of the others, to ingratiate yourself with Sarkon, but he has been very taciturn. You HAVE considered being honest and upfront with him, but you have NO IDEA if that's a good idea… much to consider.
