Damp

Damp (or damps) is non-breathable gas found in coal mines. Damps are named to distinguish between their primary constituent, but may be mixed with water vapor and other gasses. Sometimes, damps can be sensed by their smell, but even when they can, olfactory fatigue can make predicting danger through smells unreliable.

Blackdamp: Primarily carbon dioxide. Players can sense blackdamp by the stinging sensation in their nose and lungs, similar to that found in carbonated soda, or by flames being dimmed or extinguished.

Whitedamp: Primarily carbon monoxide. Extremely dangerous due to its ability to suffocate as well as being highly flammable. Often odorless, whitedamp is difficult to sense, but may be sensed by canaries going unconscious or dying.

Stinkdamp: Primarily hydrogen sulfide. Flammable, but only at high concentrations. Stinks of rotten eggs.

Afterdamp: A mix of post-explosion gasses.
