FIXME: I think these default training times ought be more expensive. Consider: R1 = 6 mo. R2 = 2 years. R3 = 8 years. R4 = 32 years. R5 = 128 years. R6 = 512 years. r7 = 2,048 years. R8 = 8,192 years. R9 = 32,768 years. 'Prodigy' (currently you start with 1 R5 ability) archetype alternative: Choose 1 ability. Training time for that ability is only 1/4 normal - you learn this ability 4 times faster.
